Shipping from China to Australia by sea is the cheapest way to bring home bulky or heavy orders — furniture, appliances, big clothing hauls, or 1688 wholesale stock. Send your Taobao, Pinduoduo, JD, or 1688 purchases to Ebaoguo’s warehouse in Foshan, Guangdong; we unpack, inspect, photograph, and consolidate everything into one shipment, then ship it to Australia by sea. You choose small-parcel service (from AU$2.8/kg, for orders under AU$1,000) or full bulk-cargo service for larger loads, and either pick up at our Melbourne warehouse or have it delivered to your door. Plan on roughly 5-7 weeks door to door. Enter your box sizes in the calculator below for a live quote before you ship.
China to Australia sea freight: 4 shipping options #

- Ebaoguo is responsible for transportation only. If customs inspects or confiscates the parcel contents, Ebaoguo bears no liability
Australian customs and import rules you need to know #
- ✅ Everything goes smoothly — customs releases the shipment, and after unpacking at the bonded warehouse it is sent to our warehouse or handed to a third-party courier for delivery
- ⚠️ Customs randomly requests documentation — they ask the sender to provide product information and related details for the items on the waybill before releasing
- ⚠️ Customs requires AQIS inspection of the goods — this almost always converts to a formal customs entry. Customs will inspect the goods on-site or send them to a laboratory:
- Customs broker handling fee:
AU$110 + GST - Customs document fee:
AU$165 + GST - Customs AQIS inspection warehouse fee: from
AU$180 + GST - ⚠️ Bonded warehouse storage fee: approx.
AU$100/day, calculated from the day goods enter the bonded warehouse until customs completes the inspection and releases them. This fee is paid directly by the customer to the bonded warehouse and is unrelated to Ebaoguo
- Customs broker handling fee:
- ⚠️ Customs suspects under-declaration (EMPP):
- Customs broker handling fee:
AU$110 + GST - Customs document fee:
AU$165 + GST - Any taxes or re-declaration fees will be charged based on the actual customs invoice
- ⚠️ Bonded warehouse storage fee: approx.
AU$100/day, paid directly by the customer to the bonded warehouse and unrelated to Ebaoguo
- Customs broker handling fee:
- ❗ Once customs requires an inspection, it cannot simply be cancelled. If the recipient insists on destruction, additional customs document fees and customs-designated destruction fees will arise — these too are charged on actuals after customs completes the destruction

- For the same consignee in the same batch, declared values across waybills are cumulative. If the combined total exceeds
¥4,600 (≈AU$1,000), customs duty applies - Please declare all goods accurately (product name, quantity, value). If customs inspects, seizes, or fines due to omission or misrepresentation, the customer bears all costs and legal liability
What Do I Need to Provide for a Formal Customs Entry? #
- Company name and ABN (Company Certificate Copy required); if no ABN, provide the recipient’s name and ID (Passport and Licence)
- Purchase invoice and packing list
- Utility Bills (electricity/water bill or bank statement)

Frequently Asked Questions #
How long does sea freight from China to Australia take?
From Ebaoguo’s Foshan warehouse, small-parcel self-collection sea freight takes about 30-45 days on the water to our Melbourne warehouse; the door-delivery route is closer to 30 days to port. After that, Australian customs clearance takes roughly 3-5 business days, then goods are sorted for pickup or handed to a local courier. All in, plan on about 5-7 weeks door to door. Cut-off is every Wednesday with loading the following week, so submit before the cut-off to catch the next sailing. A customs or AQIS inspection can add time, and local courier delivery times vary by area.
How much does it cost to ship from China to Australia by sea?
It depends on which of Ebaoguo’s four sea services fits your goods. Small parcels start at AU$2.8/kg with a 5 kg minimum, so a small consolidated box works out around AU$14. Larger or higher-value shipments over 1 cubic metre go by the bulk-cargo route at AU$220-280 per CBM depending on total volume, or from AU$480/CBM if you want door delivery with forklift unloading. Chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric weight (L×W×H cm ÷ 5000). The best move is to enter your real box dimensions in the calculator above for a live all-in quote — sea is far cheaper per kilo than air for anything heavy or bulky.
Can I ship Taobao, 1688, or Pinduoduo orders to Australia by sea?
Yes. Shop on Taobao, Tmall, 1688, Pinduoduo, JD, Xiaohongshu, or anywhere else, and have the sellers send everything to your Ebaoguo warehouse address in Foshan. We unpack, inspect, photograph, weigh, and consolidate all your parcels into one sea shipment to Australia. This is ideal for 1688 wholesale buyers ordering from several suppliers — everything lands in one place and travels as a single consolidated shipment, cutting freight cost and customs paperwork. Note that food, liquids, medicines, and batteries above 100 Wh can’t be sent by sea; check the prohibited-items list before you buy.
Sea freight vs air freight from China to Australia — which is cheaper?
Sea is much cheaper per kilo — from AU$2.8/kg — but takes about 5-7 weeks; air is faster (roughly a week) and suits small, urgent, light parcels. Choose sea for anything bulky or heavy: furniture, appliances, big clothing or 1688 wholesale hauls, where the slower transit is worth the saving. Choose air when you need it fast and it’s light. Because sea has a 5 kg minimum and prices on volumetric weight, very small light items sometimes aren’t worth shipping alone — consolidate them. Compare both on our China to Australia air freight page, or run your exact boxes through the calculator above.
Do I need to pay customs, GST, or import duty shipping from China to Australia?
It depends on declared value. Ebaoguo’s small-parcel sea routes are built for shipments under AU$1,000 (about ¥4,600), which normally clear without a formal customs entry or duty — DDU means you’d only pay if customs assesses something. Above AU$1,000 the shipment converts to a formal entry: 5% import duty plus 10% GST on (goods + freight + insurance + duty), plus a clearance fee around AU$165. Important: for the same recipient in one batch, declared values across waybills are added together, so splitting orders won’t dodge the threshold. Always declare honestly — under-declaring risks seizure and penalties.
What can’t I ship from China to Australia by sea?
Australia’s biosecurity and dangerous-goods rules are strict. By sea, Ebaoguo can’t send food, liquids, medicines, batteries over 100 Wh or loose lithium batteries, perfume and aerosols, cigarettes and vapes, alcohol, plants, seeds, or untreated wood (bamboo and wood products need paid fumigation). Counterfeit or trademark-infringing goods are seized by Australian Border Force and can trigger penalties. Bulky electronics with built-in batteries under 100 Wh, appliances, furniture, clothing, toys, and books are fine. See the full prohibited-items list further down this page, and if you’re unsure about anything, message customer service before you buy.
How do I consolidate Taobao orders before shipping to Australia?
Consolidation is the main reason to use Ebaoguo. Send purchases from Taobao, Pinduoduo, 1688, JD, or any Chinese seller to your warehouse address in Foshan. As they arrive we photograph and log each one, then combine them into your largest box (free — you only pay a small box fee if we need a new one). You pay one set of freight charges and clear customs once instead of per parcel. Free consolidation covers up to 30 packages per waybill; free storage is 60 days. It’s the cheapest way to move a big mixed haul, and you’ll see weights, dimensions, and photos in your dashboard before you pay.
What happens if my parcel gets held or inspected by Australian customs?
If customs or AQIS holds your shipment, real costs can follow: a customs broker fee (AU$110+GST), a document fee (AU$165+GST), an AQIS warehouse fee (from AU$180+GST), and the big one — bonded-warehouse storage at roughly AU$100/day until customs releases the goods, which you pay directly to the warehouse. Once an inspection is triggered it can’t just be cancelled. Holds usually come from an inaccurate or vague declaration, a suspected under-declaration, or a flagged item. The best protection is an accurate declared value, a clear itemised declaration, and keeping your purchase invoices. See the Australian customs and import rules you need to know section above for the full fee breakdown.

How We Measure Irregular Parcels #
① Standard Parcel: For standard box-shaped parcels, volumetric weight is calculated using length × width × height.

② Bulging Parcel: If the box has been deformed or expanded due to contents, the longest edge is used for measurement.

③ Irregular Parcel: For irregularly shaped parcels, volumetric weight is calculated using the longest edge.
