📦 Route: What I Can → Bring or Mail to New Zealand
📅 Updated:
ℹ️
Whether mailing or carrying items into New Zealand, always declare honestly. #
When arriving in New Zealand, crew members on your flight or cruise ship will hand you an Arrival Card. You must mark “Yes” or “No” to declare whether you are carrying certain food items, plant material, or animal products.
【This is a legal document】 The card is available in Chinese, with Chinese explanations for each question. Please fill it in truthfully.
After passing through New Zealand Customs, a border control officer will review your Arrival Card and determine whether you and your luggage need to be inspected. You may also voluntarily dispose of food, plant material, or animal products in the bins provided.
Goods carried into the country must be accurately described in the parcel declaration, including item name, quantity, and value.

Common categories of imported goods #
Because there are so many product types, we recommend checking the New Zealand Customs search tool before you arrive to see whether your items are permitted entry. The list below covers only some common goods that people carry or mail into New Zealand — it does not guarantee that these items can be legally imported.
Many customers ask us: they’ve previously mailed food and medicine via China Post sea or air freight with no issues — so why can’t they do the same through a consolidation service?
Firstly, China Post does not proactively declare goods. The Universal Postal Union (UPU) clearance process means postal parcels are less likely to be inspected by customs. Secondly, some forwarding agents do not declare goods accurately on behalf of their customers in order to ship more parcels. If you mail goods that are not permitted for import, customs will seize your items and send you a notice of seized prohibited goods — detailing what was seized and why. If you can provide the relevant import permits or approvals, customs may release the goods. If you cannot, the recipient bears responsibility for the consequences of mailing prohibited items; the sender is generally not held accountable.
All warehouses under Ebaoguo Global Forwarding manually inspect parcels upon receipt. While this takes time, we do our best to comply with the import and export laws of all relevant countries, in the interest of long-term, sustainable operations.
Can I bring or mail alcohol to New Zealand? #
If you are 18 years of age or older, you may bring up to 3 bottles of spirits (each no more than 1.15 litres), or 4.5 litres of wine or beer, into New Zealand duty-free — whether you are travelling as a passenger or crew member. All alcoholic beverages in your carry-on luggage fall under this category, regardless of where or how they were purchased.
If you have any items exceeding the duty-free allowance, please declare them and provide proof of purchase to customs so that any applicable duties and taxes can be calculated.
Failure to declare alcoholic beverages may result in penalties, prosecution, or cancellation of your visa. The consequences will depend on the quantity of undeclared excess alcohol or goods found on you.
Ebaoguo does not support the mailing of alcohol or alcoholic beverages.

Food and Beverages #
Some food, beverages, sports and outdoor equipment, and animal or plant products may carry harmful pests and diseases. If you are unsure, declare your items on arrival or dispose of them in the bins provided — otherwise you may be fined. Additionally, if a biosecurity officer finds undeclared meat or other livestock products in your carry-on luggage, the person carrying those products will be subject to penalties. New Zealand’s penalties are strict, and forgetting to declare can cause serious problems. For this reason, we do not recommend bringing or mailing meat-based food products into New Zealand.
To save you time, we have compiled a summary of common food import restrictions based on New Zealand Customs regulations and our own understanding. All products must be declared accurately — customs will inspect them, and the items listed below are not guaranteed to clear customs. Please refer to the official New Zealand Customs website for full details. For detailed classifications of various food items, New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries provides a comprehensive breakdown: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/bring-send-to-nz/bringing-and-posting-items-to-nz/check-if-you-can-bring-or-send-an-item-to-nz/food/
