Chinese Customs & Postal Tax #
✅ Duty-paid (DDP) Service — Specified Products: For eligible categories — infant formula, health supplements, food, cosmetics/skincare, clothing — Ebaoguo offers a duty-paid service. Tax is pre-paid and included in your shipping cost; recipients receive their parcels without any additional payment at delivery. Contact us to confirm whether your specific products qualify.
Personal postal items entering Mainland China are subject to a postal tax — a consolidated rate covering import duty, VAT, and consumption tax. The rate depends on product category. If the total postal tax is less than CNY 50, it is waived.
| Category | Postal Tax Rate | Typical Items |
|---|---|---|
| Category 1 | 15% | Books, stationery, electronics, appliances |
| Category 2 | 30% | Food (general), medicines, health supplements |
| Category 3 | 60% | Cosmetics, skincare, clothing, footwear |
| Waiver | CNY 50 threshold | Tax waived if total postal tax is under CNY 50 |
Rates are subject to change by China Customs (General Administration of Customs). The above is indicative only. Ebaoguo does not pre-pay or guarantee customs outcomes. Always declare honestly — under-declaration can lead to seizure and penalties. Check the China Customs website for the latest rates. See our Terms & Conditions.
⚠️ Infant Formula Note: Baby formula brands must be registered with China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) to clear customs. Personal quantities are limited. Unregistered brands may be seized. Verify brand registration status before shipping.

- Destination customs authorities may consider the declared value, but are not obliged to use it as the assessable basis;
- Customs may apply their own product valuation database or reference price to determine duty;
- The exact duty amount, whether duty is levied, and whether the parcel is inspected are solely at the discretion of destination customs; Ebaoguo cannot guarantee outcomes;
- This page does not constitute a tax-assessment authority and cannot be used as evidence in any customs dispute;
- All duties, VAT, consumption tax, and surcharges are paid by the recipient at destination (DDU); Ebaoguo does not collect or pre-pay duty.
Frequently Asked Questions #
How long does shipping from Australia to China take?
Typically 5–10 business days by air from our Melbourne warehouse. Domestic delivery in China adds 1–2 days. During peak periods (Chinese New Year, Golden Week holidays), customs may add 3–5 extra days. Major cities (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen) see the most consistent transit times.
Do I need to pay import tax when sending parcels to China?
Yes. China applies a postal tax on personal imports: 15%–60% depending on category. The tax is waived if the total is under CNY 50. Tax is collected by China Customs directly from the recipient. Always declare honestly — under-declaration risks seizure and fines.
Can I ship Australian baby formula to China?
Yes, but with important restrictions. Infant formula brands must be registered with China NMPA to be permitted entry. On Ebaoguo’s consolidation lanes, tinned formula ships on the Economy lane only — up to 3 tins per box (Maxigenes: up to 6), packed in its own box; bagged formula is capped at 8 bags per box, and the Standard lane does not accept milk powder (see the limits table above). Unregistered brands or excessive quantities risk seizure at customs. Verify your brand registration status before shipping and contact us if unsure.
Can I ship health supplements and vitamins to China?
Personal-use quantities of mainstream supplements (fish oil, calcium, vitamins) generally clear customs. They should be in sealed original commercial packaging with English labelling. Large quantities deemed commercial stock face higher tax rates or seizure risk. China strictly regulates health products — contact us before shipping large supplement orders. On the consolidation lanes, supplements/food are capped per box at 10 items & 4.5 kg (Economy) or 15 items & 4.5 kg (Standard) — see the limits table above.
How are parcels tracked after reaching China?
Once your parcel arrives in China, it is handed to a domestic courier (SF Express, Cainiao, or JD Logistics). You will receive both the international tracking number and a domestic tracking number through your Ebaoguo account. Delivery to your door typically completes within 1–2 business days of arrival.
How much does it cost to ship from Australia to China?
AU$10/kg on Ebaoguo’s consolidation route, from 500g, with AU$150 insurance and 5–10 working day delivery.
How much tax do I pay shipping from Australia to China?
China’s postal tax is 15%–60% by category; waived if under CNY 50, or pre-paid via the duty-paid service.
Is there a declared-value limit on the consolidation lanes to China?
Yes. The Economy lane caps declared value at AU$150 per box and the Standard lane at AU$200. For higher-value items ship via FedEx, or contact customer service before you send so we can advise the right lane.
